different. You know, meet some new friends, learn to scuba dive, go out on a
boat, get caught in a hurricane and stranded on a deserted island . . . well,
maybe really different. And Sam and his friends aren’t the only ones who’ve
found Lost Island. Can Sam, Tony and Tyler muster the courage it takes to stay
alive? Find out in this first book of the Sam Cooper Adventure Series.

Overall thoughts:

This is a great book if you have a reluctant reader in your
house. Filled with adventure, excitement and everyday boys facing real
challenges, this book is one most middle-grade boys will love to read. Parents
will enjoy the strong memorable lessons about friendship, being honest and
communicating with family members.

The beginning really hooked me. I could feel the climax
waiting to build right away. One thing I did notice was, it took me awhile to
really get into the story after chapter 5. I felt the chapters on scuba diving
slowed in pace a bit. Maybe it’s because I know how to scuba dive, but I feel
the pace didn’t really pick back up until the boys head out on the catamaran,
which is towards the end of chapter 9.

Max Elliot Anderson is a wonderful writer and really brings
the details to life for young readers. I could see, smell and even thought I
could reach out and touch each scene Sam and his friends experienced.
