Summer Reading Tip

Don’t take the summer off from reading!

Summer is a wonderful time to read, read, read ---  visit your local library, many have fun reading programs; start a family book club; research about your summer vacation spots; keep a journal of all the titles you read during the summer; or start a book you have always wanted to read.

Pack a lunch and a book for a picnic at the park, the beach, or in your own backyard.  Eat outside and read outside!

Make a list of all the places you would like to visit and read about them – what do they eat there?  Are there any festivals or monuments? Create a schedule for your trips.  Find pictures of the places and write a story about visiting the places with you as the main character meeting a new friend who lives in one of the places.

Did you know the Summer Olympics will be held this year in London, England?  The Summer Olympic sports are archery, badminton, basketball, beach volleyball, boxing, canoe / kayak, cycling, diving, equestrian, fencing, field hockey, gymnastics, handball, judo, modern pentathlon (shooting, fencing, swimming, show jumping, and running), mountain biking, rowing, sailing, shooting, soccer, swimming, synchronized swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, track and field, triathlon (swimming, biking, running), volleyball, water polo, weightlifting, and wrestling.  Create your own game using rules from two or three of these games.. write the rules and how to play your new game!

Happy, sunny reading all summer!
