Book Review: The Wishing Well
The Wishing Well
Author: Kai Strand
ISBN: 9781616333010
Guardian Angel Publishing, Inc
Chapter book for 8-12 year old
Fiction
It is rare when an author can write a children's story that mimics a well known fairy tale and do it with imagination, good plotting, and a unique twist but author Kai Strand does just that with her chapter book, The Wishing Well.
Well developed characters with similar personalities as those evil sisters in Cinderella immediately hook the reader with a "love em" or "hate em" type reaction. Which ever emotion the reader attaches themselves to will keep them turning the pages. Throw in an ugly blue creature with an accent, an evil and unhappy mother whom is demanding and clearly shows favoritism and finally the main character named Molly who wishes to be anywhere but here and you have the makings for a modern version of the classic fairytale. Good versus evil and in the end good prevails making this a great chapter book for young readers 8-12 years old.
