Book Review of Third Book in Mom's Choice Award-winning series Quincy the Horse

Mom's Choice Gold Award-winning Quincy the Horse Series. In Quincy’s third adventure, "Quincy and Buck", Quincy tries to overcome his fears about “surprises waiting for horses out on the trail” by going on his first trail ride. Quincy’s main concern is the wild animals he might meet but the real challenge turns out to be another horse. Buck, the horse he hopes will be his trail buddy and guide him, turns out to be a bully who is dangerous!

Quincy learns some important things about dealing with a bully.

Our thoughts: I always look forward to the next Quincy the Horse picture book as I'm always very happy with the story plot and detailed illustrations. In this book, Michelle Black doesn't disappoint as young readers get to see the desert landscape and animals that live around Quincy's home. I really enjoyed how young minds get to explore in this book and learn about things they may not already know or don't have in their regional area.

Author Camille Matthews does a wonderful job of bringing real life situations young readers encounter at school and home in this story as well. From Quincy learning how to over-come his fears of becoming a trail horse and exploring the unknown to learning the lesson about bullies. Quincy at first tries to stay away from Buck, whom he hoped would show him how to be a good trail horse. Instead, Quincy must look deep inside himself as he watches Buck from a distance on the trail. As the ride continues, Quincy starts to feel confident and later becomes the lead trail horse when Buck becomes afraid. Even though Buck and Quincy don't become friends, Buck does help teach Quincy a few life lessons he won't forget.
